Another race, another challenge. Running an ultra has been a goal of mine since I started triathlon and started following ultrarunners on twitter. So now it is finally coming to pass that Saturday, November 23 I’ll be running the JFK 50 miler. I’m not really sure how it’s going to go: I will spend a bunch of time, I’m sure, battling the demons in my own head that tell me it’s ok to do X, Y, and Z; I’m not really sure how well I’ll mentally hold up for the race, but physically I think I’m fine. For once, I’m letting you say that I’ll DNF, but to win on that count you have to be closest to the mileage I’m at when dropping out would win. But you’re not going to win by selecting DNF, because I’m not going to DNF.
I’m not sure what, if any, multipliers I will do on winning. Perhaps for every 15-30 minutes I beat my goal (8 hours), I’ll pick another close guesser. I’m sure there’s a way to game the system by my doing that, but it’s an exercise left to the reader.
- Yes, I see the coincidence that it is 1 day after the 50th anniversary of the death of JFK ↩
